Shield
This urban artwork, Shield, (in Estonian: Kaitsekilp) received 2nd place in an open art competition, searching for a new artwork for Jõhvi military base. Our proposal is imagined of hundreds of reflective metal pillars representing military values — as unity, force and defense. The lighting design is addressed twofold. Firstly, the mirror-like reflective surfaces create a spectacle with direct sunlight. And secondly, the dynamic electrical light-play emerging from the ground in the dark hours, illuminates the pillars.
This project team consisted of architects Liis Uustal and Egon Metusala and lighting designers Mariliis Kundla and Mihkel Pajuste.
